Get a Library Card

Any South Central Library System area resident is eligible to receive a free Portage Public Library card with proof address and a photo ID. Renew a Library Card

Library cards expire every 4 years. When it is time to renew your library card you can do so by either calling the library at 608-742-4959, or by coming in to the library. Staff will ask you to verify and update your information like address, phone number, and email address to make sure that your account is up to date. Once your account is renewed you can keep your current card and barcode, if your card is in poor condition we can issue you a new card with a new barcode.  

Replace a Lost Library Card

In the event that you lose your library card we can issue you a replacement card for $1.00. 

Free Public Computer Use and Printing

With a library card you can use the Internet and Microsoft Office software for free. Simply log onto an open computer with your library card number and PIN.
Black and white printing is 25-cents per side and 50-cents per side for color pages. See the public computer use policy for further details.

If you have a laptop or other device, you can also use the library's wireless connection for free. See the public computer use policy for further details.

Community Rooms and Study Rooms

Community rooms are available for groups to use, but all sessions must be open to the general public. Two study rooms are available and can be booked immediately based on availability.  Check in at the Information Desk or call 742-4959 to reserve a study room.

Loan Periods and Fines

28 Days: Books and audio books
14 Days: New adult fiction, magazines, newspapers, music CDs, software
7 Days: DVDs and video games

$0.10/day – Adult books, adult magazines, adult audio books, CDs, and newspapers.
$0.10/day – DVDs, Blu-Rays, CD-ROMs, and video games.
$1.00/day – Items from outside the SCLS system of libraries (OLL)

Most items can be renewed up to two times provided no one else has reserved the item. If provided with an email address, the library will send a courtesy pre-overdue notice two days prior to an item's due date. See the Circulation Policy for full details.
